PETER’S MEN’S CLUB’S
ANNUAL LOW COUNTRY BOIL/BOSTON BUTT DINNER
On September 8, 2015, the members of St. Peter the Apostle’s Men’s Club and their spouses/guests gathered at the home of Don and Judy Farabaugh for the 6th Annual Low Country Boil/Boston Butt dinner. The daily rain showers, which had dogged our area for weeks, took a break, the sun came out and the members and their guests enjoyed the sunset from the deck while snacking on appetizers, adult beverages and all while having sprightly conversation.
Chef Farabaugh cooked the Low Country Boil. Naturally, there were plenty of “chefs” there to supervise and advise. We all know that men have expertise in many areas and they don’t hesitate to share their knowledge.
Honor guests that night, not only included Father Paul Cabrita, but also Pat McMahon, past Grand Knight and Heath Moyer, current Grand Knight of the Island’s Knights of Columbus Council. Their attendance at the special dinner was an opportunity for the Men’s Club to show their appreciation to the Knights of Columbus for their cooperation in the success of the first “Steamer Bucket of Cheer” fundraiser. The Men’s Club members attribute a significant part of their success to the generous offer by the Knights to allow ticket sales during the two annual Lenten Fish Fry Dinners, as well as at a couple of the monthly breakfasts sponsored by the Knights. As a token of appreciation, Arthur Sullivan, president of the Men’s club, on behalf of all the members, presented a check for $200 to Pat and Heath. This cooperation between the “young bucks” and “older set” is a good example of two groups cooperating to better serve not only our Parish but the community at large.
Both of these organizations welcome new members who desire an opportunity to “give back” and enjoy “guaranteed” fun while doing so. It’s a “win-win” way to serve and fellowship with others who give back.
