2. Transubstantiation is: A technical term that describes the change of the whole substance of the bread and wine into the whole substance of the body and blood of Christ while only the accidents (taste, smell and so on) of bread and wine remain.

Eucharistic Miracle
3. Can a non-catholic receive communion at a Catholic Mass? Why or why not?

Non-Catholics are not in full “communion” with the Catholic Church on the belief that the bread and wine become the Body of Christ; many non-Catholics believe it to be only symbolic and therefore not in line with the Catholic teaching.

Amen? or AMEN!

When you respond “Amen” after the priest (or Eucharistic Minister) says “the Body of Christ,” you are saying that you believe everything that the Catholic Church teaches, which includes that the Sacred Host has actually become the Body of Christ, that it is not just a symbol.

SAINT QUOTE:

“Our sharing in the Body and Blood of Christ has no

other purpose than to transform us into that which we receive.” Pope Saint Leo the Great

4. What is the distinction between the Virgin Birth of Jesus by Mary and the Immaculate Conception?

The Immaculate Conception refers to the fact that Mary was kept free of original sin from the time of her conception. The Virgin Birth refers to Mary’s virginity when she gave birth to Jesus.

5. What is fasting and abstinence? In which liturgical season are these generally practiced?

Fasting is foregoing food and drink for a period of time. Abstinence is refraining or restricting from a particular food/drink, generally practiced during Lent.

6. Where do you find the letters INRI? What do they stand for?

At the top of the crucifix. Stands for the first letter of the latin phrase Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews.

7. What are the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit?
