Meet Dominick Tambon

LLS Man of the Year!

Dominick is a SPA School Graduate, and Basketball coach at St. Peter’s!   He “gives” to us…now we need to GIVE TO HIM!  Hear what he has to say, and please consider supporting his efforts.

It’s a great honor to be nominated for LLS Man of the Year. This is a very personal matter to me and most of you will be finding out why for the first time as you read this. So why am I doing this?! The reason is that last fall I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkins Lymphoma. Outside of family, a few friends, and work I didn’t go around telling people what was going on or blasting it on Facebook. That’s not my style! During the entire 6 months of chemo and month of radiation, I kept my head down and did what I had to do. I am not announcing this to the world now in order to get praised. I don’t want a retroactive pity party or find a 1000 new best friends at my door stopping by to say hello “because you just happened to be in the neighborhood” lol. I am doing this because on the worst days, I made a deal with the man upstairs. I told Him that if He got me through it, I would help others with this moving forward. That time is now! I am cancer free, returned to my old self, and ready to make good on that promise.

During the entire process I always said “I don’t know how little kids go through this, I’m a grown man and this is taking all my mental and physical strength to beat this”. Even now I think that because I was blessed with parents that raised me the right way, had years of basketball experience where I learned to be challenged physically and mentally, and the up and downs of life that we all go through to pull from but even I had my moments during treatment. Little kids are just kids! They should be playing and being a child, not dealing with this.

Now of course its great for you to share, like, or comment on this on Facebook but the main thing is raising money. We are also looking for team members to help out so please contact me if you are interested (Even if you do not live in Savannah). So please give as much as possible because Cancer has to end sometime!
