Confirmation Preparations

Confirmation Spectacular, Sunday, October 23, 2011 - 10:00am - 5:00pm

Confirmation is a continuation of our Baptismal commitment. Therefore, candidates should take their Baptismal name at Confirmation. The Confirmation sponsor should play an active role in the faith formation of the candidate.

Confirmation sponsors need to be a practicing Catholic over the age of 16. A parent cannot be a sponsor. Preparation for the sacrament should involve the parents and sponsor in order to help our young people better understand the significance of this sacrament in their life.

Preparation for reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation begins for all students of St. Peter the Apostle School and CCD program in September of the seventh grade and continues into the fall of their eighth grade. It includes Religious Formation, 25 hours of community service and participation within the church community. As part of the preparation,

• All candidates must have their 25 hours of community service completed. A form [pdf] confirming the service hours needs to be turned in to your child's teacher by September 30.


• All candidates will be required to write a letter to Bishop Hartmayer. The topic for the letter this year is: "How has your home life influenced your religious formation?" Due Oct. 21st.


• All candidates will be ordered to write a letter to Msgr. Costigan and Father Tran. The topic is "Why i want to be Confirmed". Due Oct. 12th.


• All candidate along with their parents will interview with either Monsignor Costigan or Father John. . A sign-up sheet will be available at the parent meeting.

Because of the importance of adequate preparation for this sacrament, no student can be confirmed who has not completed the proper preparation. A mandatory Confirmation Retreat  will be held on:   Oct. 23, 2011. There is a medical/ liability form available here [pdf].  A mandatory practice will be held on: Nov. 7, 2011 @ 6pm . We ask each candidate's sponsor or a proxy sponsor attend this practice. After practice, a dinner will be held in the parish center for the candidates and their sponsor.
